Taking the Road to Hana is a "must-do" when you come to Maui. When you take a journey to Hana, you need to understand it is not about "arriving" there but making the most of the experience of "getting" there. When you board a PolyAd Hana tour, you will be doing just that. You will be riding in comfort, in a state-of-the-art minibus or Mercedez Sprinter Van equipped with large viewing windows, so all you need to worry about is to stay awake, not missing the excitement of new incredible sites after every turn. Best of all, you won't have to make those turns yourself! Your guide is an expert driver and will take you smoothly over every turn. He will also be narrating the entire journey with the highlights of every area and historical insights on the Hawaiian culture and lifestyle.
The Road to Hana features 620 curves and 59 one-lane bridges, many of which face waterfalls that barely miss the road. You will be in awe of the beauty of the Ke'anae Peninsula and so many other breathtaking sites. Your first stop will be to enjoy a continental breakfast before you begin the windy part of the trip. You will be driving through Old Paia Town, Kaumahina State Park, and many other places you would most likely miss if you drove yourself there. Just before Hana, you will get to visit Wai'anapanapa State Park and its cave pools and famous Black Sand Beach. While in Hana, your tour will stop for lunch at Hana Farms, a tropical farm and marketplace located in the rainforest along Hana Highway. Those who purchase the "Gold Upgrade" will enjoy a hot lunch, while those who choose the regular tour may purchase their lunch during this stop.
There is so much more to see once you go past Hana. One of the most popular stops is South Wailua Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls that can be accessed from the road. Make sure you saved memory in your camera because you will still have plenty to see.
You will be going by Kipahulu Valley and Ohe'o Gulch before the road starts heading south towards Kaupo. You will notice a huge change in your surroundings' views and topography, where there will be lots of volcanic rocks and dry grasslands. The road won't be anywhere as windy but will definitely become somewhat rougher. By sundown, you should be reaching Upcountry Maui, going up to about 3,000 feet up on Mount Haleakala, before heading down towards Kahului and back to your resort or condominium.
